Thing 4 - Photo Editing

In order to complete this activity, I started with a photo of one of my dogs, Charlie. I say "a" photo, I should say "several" photos. After choosing the one in which he looked the cutest, I then edited it by using the sketchbook option. It was then that I realized cropping would be desirable, so I cropped the photo, then I re-cropped the photo, then I cropped it, again.

I'm not sure if it was at that point that I heard it, or shortly thereafter; nevertheless, the sound was unmistakable. That's right, it was the ubiquitous evil laughter of that nemesis of education - ECHALK.

Login into Google Drive? How dare you suggest such a thing?!??!

MUHWAARWAWWAEWA *coughcoughcough* AAHAHAHHAAHH

That's right, friends, once again we discover that it is not USING the iPad that is the difficult part. It is the getting the stuff OFF OF THE iPAD that torments us so.

There I was, sitting in my nightgown (because hey, isn't that the REAL reason we love online classes?) cursing like Ned Flanders.

"Well darn-diddly-arn, if it isn't my old enemy, EChalk-ily walk-ily."

I could regale you with the details of the wailing, and the gnashing of teeth, and the request for assistance from the spousal unit who does this type of thing for a living, I mean, seriously, malfunctioning devices mysteriously begin to work when he gets within five feet but, suffice it to say, I went to my personal gmail account and started 13 Things 4 iPad blog 2.0.

Now, back to business:

I think that the photo feature of the iPad will be fantastic to use with students. One use that immediately comes to mind is using the camera to demonstrate an understanding of symmetry. I can envision students taking a walk around camp looking for architectural features that demonstrate symmetry. And the wonderful thing is that the students don't even have to be really good at photography. iPhoto will forgive a multitude of sins and they can simply crop and really show their learning in an up close and personal way.

Now if we could just get those darn-diddly-arn photos off of the iPad-ily waddily...
